Born in Mumbai in 1936, in a family accomplished in the performing arts Pandit Dinkar Panshikar spent over 10 years studying the intricacies of the Jaipur Atrauli Gharana under Pt. Nivruttibua Sarnaik. Known as a musician and a music scholar, Pt. Dinkar Panshikar has created more than 200 compositions, many of which are set to the rarely performed Ada chowtal.

Jaipur Gunijankhana had the privileged of hosting Pandit Dinkar Panshikar to conduct a work shop. During the 4 sessions spread over two days, he taught close to 30 compositions in rare ragas such as Dagori, Shivmat Bhairav, Yamani Bilawal, Bihagda and others. He also shared a few anecnotes of his experience as a disciple of Pt. Nivruttibua Sarnaik. It was a wonderful learning experience for students of music. The session was attended by musicians including Smt. Meera Panshikar, Pt. Raghunandan Panshikar, Smt. Nandini Bedekar, Shri. Bharat Kamat. Shri. Arvind Kadgaonkar provided excellent support on the tabla.
